“Barista Gibberish” is a silly and worm sit-com style cartoon that will leave you with a smile.
The Back Story
FROM CONCEPT TO SCRIPT
“Barista Gibberish” was the very first animated production for RealSketch Animation and was primarily a learning experience. With the desire to create a sit-com style story about a gibberish speaking character, the original concept would see George driving a cab and struggling to understand the directions given to him by his passengers. Through the discovery of the writing process the story would later be set in a coffee shop. This change of scenery would allow George to be surrounded by a group of characters who would each have their own way of interacting with him. This change would also create a wormer setting for the main character and allow him the opportunity to forge friendships in a more social environment.
Upon completion of this first animated project, the hope was that in a diverse and divided world, this silly little cartoon would leave it’s audience with a new found understanding of those who look, act and sound different. Ultimately, the goal of this project was to highlight that having respect for others can benefit us all.
The Characters
GEORGE
George is a man who frequents the local coffee shop. He is a unique individual who speaks his own made up language. A frustrating factor for most but for his barista, it is the foundation of their friendship. When he meets a mute realestate agent named Cindy, George begins to discover the value of human connection.
ROB
Rob is a struggling new barista who is learning the ropes of this fast paced profession under the apprenticeship of Harold, a no nonsense grouch of a manager. Rob finds his strengths in people skills when he discovers that he is the only one who can understand the nonsense, gibberish language of George. From the initial exchange when Rob is able to take George’s order, the two become friends, making George a repeat customer and increasing Rob’s value in the work place.
HAROLD
Harold is the coffee shop manager with lacking people skills. He is a grump with little patience for his employees or his customers. However, he is a good manager who is loyal to the company he works for. But when the company shows their lack of loyalty to him, he is faced with an internal conflict as he unknowingly navigates what will ultimately become an eye opening life lesson.
CINDY
Cindy is a sharp and highly sought after real-estate agent with one odd quirk. She does not talk. She is a mute by choice and an interesting addition to this cast of misfits. When Cindy meets George, she quickly develops an admiration for him and his odd way of communicating. The two of them quickly realize that they are kindred spirits and embark on journey that will forever change the dynamic for the entire cast.
CEO
The ultimate head honcho for the large corporation that owns the coffee shop. He is a man driven by one thing and one thing only.. Money. He surrounds himself with nothing but yes men and values only his own opinion. He approaches business with a “make me money or go home” attitude. He is a dim-witted and slightly villainous presence in this lite hearted story.
3D Scenes
INT: COFFEE SHOP
The central setting for this story and the focal point of the plot. This cartoonish looking coffee shop was created using Muvizu, an older animation software built for beginners. The coffee shop was made using build in assets within Muvizu. This 3D scene was intentionally given a classic look to match the old fashioned, sit-com writing style of the story.
INT: BOARDROOM
This is also a Muvizu made 3D scene that was used for two short but important cut away scenes. The wood paneling coupled with the old fashioned laps and two tone pastel brown coloring give this room a professional but slightly sinister vibe. This 3D set is indented to contribute to a mood change in the scenes that take place within it.
Production Tools
The Software Behind “Barista Gibberish”
“Barista Gibberish” was made with Muvizu, an older, beginner friendly animation software. It played a big role in the early days of the RealSketch Animation journey. Though moving on to more advanced tools like Blender and iClone was inevitable, It’s hard not to look back and appreciate what this little program made possible.
What Is Muvizu?
Muvizu is a 3D animation software designed to make storytelling fast, easy, and accessible—even for beginners. It offers a drag-and-drop interface where users can animate characters, set up virtual scenes, and produce short films or skits without needing to master complex 3D modeling or rigging.
Originally developed by Digimania, Muvizu became popular for its cartoon-style graphics and real-time animation tools. With pre-built characters, props, sets, and customizable animations, creators could focus on storytelling instead of technical details. Dialogue could be lip-synced automatically, and characters could be directed like actors on a virtual stage.
Although Muvizu is no longer officially supported or updated, it played an important role in the early days of indie animation and helped many creators take their first steps into the world of animated storytelling.
